Astaxanthin is a carotenoid found in krill oil and other seafood, including salmon and shrimp (plus seafood is also an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids). It may have antioxidant properties and be useful as an anti-inflammatory, but that might be the tip of the iceberg.
There have been an increasing number of clinical studies with astaxanthin as well as a public awareness about this supplement, perhaps due to the publicity that Dr. Mercola has given it. If you would like to learn more about Astaxanthin, here is a very interesting chat between Dr. Mercola and Bob Capelli (Vice President of Cyanotech – the world’s largest producer of astaxanthin).
You can watch that discussion in the video below:

Where can you get Astaxanthin?
Just about anything that comes out of the sea that is red, contains astaxanthin. That includes shrimp, lobster, crab, sea algae and wild salmon (avoid farmed salmon).
Also, Xtend Life produce a range of complete vitamin and mineral supplements called Total Balance. This supplement is the most comprehensive I have seen and contains astaxanthin as a component.
