Cinnamon Oil Kills Mosquitoes

Besides smelling great, cinnamon oil has shown to be able to kill mosquito larvae making it an environmentally friendly pesticide that could help in areas where malaria, yellow fever and West Nile virus are prevalent.

The study published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry compared essential oils from the cinnamon plant (Cinnamomum osmophloeum) and found that there was an excellent larvicidal activity (Aedes aegypti) with certain components of these essential oils, namely  cinnamaldehyde, eugenol, anethole, and cinnamyl acetate.  Cinnamaldehyde was the most effective at lower concentrations.
